nerd vs geek

nerd noun \ˈnərd\
Merriam Webster:  an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person;especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits
Wiktionary: A person who is intellectual, skilled in one or more fields, and generally introverted

geek noun \ˈgēk\
Merriam Webster:  an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity
Wiktionary: A person who is intensely interested in a particular field or hobby and usually antisocial

so what am i? hm.. i think both types are the anti-social kind (which im really not) but im intensely interested in a particular field or hobby rather than being skilled in one or more fields, so i think i'm in a middle, but the normal kind.. as i would say that i'm the average neek (or gerd).

january booklist

i'm thinking of a new idea for this year maybe a themed book month? like, either i read books from 1 author or 1 genre or books with similar plot/story or theme then rate them against each other? hm.. sounds interesting! i'll try it starting next month, feb, but for jan, i'll just read a random set of books.
1. melissa walker - lovestruck summer
4 1/2 stars - i like this in that she didnt think she could like a girl that's so not her type and also that she didn't think a guy like that could like her. i guess sometimes opposites really do attract. as for the other guy, i'm glad that the author didn't make him to be a jerk, instead she just showed the readers that even though you may have common interests with the guy or you may think you have found your ideal person, it still does not guarantee that he's the right one for you. it's that chemistry / connection that's more important.

2. laura ruby - good girls
4 stars - first time i read a book from this author. i liked the story, my only problem was that the flashbacks were a bit confusing that most of the time i dont know if it happened before or after the current scene. that's why at first i was confused how they had this FWB thing. also it didn't show how the guy developed feelings for the girl, it was more like he liked hooking up with her but i didn't feel that they had other things to talk about besides sex.

3. jennifer laurens - falling for romeo
4 1/4 stars - i liked the story and the writing except that it kinda dragged a bit... there wasn't really any explanation why they weren't friends anymore.. it was like suddenly the guy changed from a nottie to a hottie and then they stopped talking. it was also a bit frustrating that they kinda held back that they liked each other (i think had they said that the story would have ended after 3 chapters). there also was no resolution on the guy and his father. like there was no explanation why his dad was mean to him or why the guy had to strain himself and do so many things at once. it also didn't show in the end that his father was proud of him. and judging from the way everyone held their breaths whenever john and jen were together, you'd think they were the only people in the school - were they that popular that their every move is noticed?
4. Susan Mallery - Falling For Gracie
4 1/2 stars - a solid fun read. the only thing i didn't like was that Gracie was such a doormat! but im glad her 2 sisters, her mom and even riley became good at the end.

5. Susan Mallery - Husband By The Hour
4 stars - Hannah's family is too nice and a lot that it was hard to remember their names (i guess i have to read all their stories to understand more). i think the plot was also weak and was a bit draggy on some parts.

flying solo

i love my "me" time. i love being alone, whether in my room or in my car or in the office.
just doing my own thing. doing what i love. like i'm in my own little world where everything's fine.
i love the comfortable silence where no one's talking and everything's so calm and peaceful.
i feel like i can hear my thoughts more and understand myself better.

sometimes i wonder if i'm a recluse. that i'd rather be alone than have company.
or is it because i'm used to be alone that's why i like being alone.
or maybe i just need to be someone to understand why other people do not like being alone.
doesn't matter if you're single or taken, i think everyone needs a little time alone with themselves.
now leave me alone and i'm going back to my happy bubble!

green hornet like!

i finally got to watch green hornet last saturday with my bro and sis-in-law. despite the inane plot, too talkative seth, too old cameron, some draggy parts, i still liked the movie because it was funny. and jay chou as Kato is probably the coolest part of the movie! loved his gadgets, his martial arts, i did cringe at his English on the first few minutes, but i'm still so happy because finally if i do get to meet him in person, we can now communicate (haha, im such a dreamer!!). he also looks fat in the movie-- i think i read somewhere he was asked to gain a bit weight. oh and i wished he did a better piano piece to show off his mad piano skills. and his hair looks weird. i hope he will have more hollywood movies to come!!! :)

hope he will have more hollywood projects!!!

LOS ANGELES – Comedian Seth Rogen, whose movies include "Knocked Up" and "Superbad," stars in new 3D, action comedy "The Green Hornet," based on characters that appeared in a 1930s radio serial, a 1960s TV show and a comic book series.
Rogen, who co-wrote the movie that debuts in theaters on Friday, stars as Britt Reid, a slacker son of a media magnate who dies mysteriously. Britt befriends his dad's employee, Kato, and the duo reinvent themselves as crime fighters with Britt becoming The Green Hornet and Kato his sidekick. At the same time, they both have eyes for their new secretary, Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz).
Taiwanese singer Chou is a superstar across Asia, and he makes his English-language acting debut in "Green Hornet." He and Rogen sat down with Reuters to discuss teaming up for the movie, Chou's command of English and Rogen's singing voice.
Q: How did you two meet?
Rogen: "We met over Skype, like most people do these days. In looking for a Kato, we got a hold of Jay and set up a time to read one of the scenes over Skype. He was in Taiwan and I was in Los Angeles. We read the scene where we're arguing with each other in my guest house."
Q: Jay, you had an English tutor on the set because you didn't know the language. How was that?
Chou: "My English dialogue teacher was very scary."
Rogen: Yeah, she was the real bad guy on set.
Chou: She was like my mom. 'Hey Jay..."
Rogen: "...are you studying?" (both laugh)
Q: Did you know any English when you began shooting?
Chou: "Just 'What the hell?' and some bad words."
Rogen: "It was amazing how much he learned. But he understood it for the most part. We went through each scene and made sure he understood what was happening."
Chou: "Seth is very smart. Because he wrote the script, he could change anything. My English is not so good and sometimes (my lines) were difficult to say. Seth would say, 'Okay, let's change it.'"
Q: You two are together throughout most of the film. What were some of the biggest challenges you endured?
Rogen: "There's a big car chase at the end and we shot a lot of that in front of blue screen. That was difficult because for a week straight, it was just us sitting in a car and people yelling, 'Explosion on the left side!' or 'You're turning right!' And we're leaning all over the place."
Q: Jay does most of the driving in the film. Is that because your driving skills are poor?
Rogen: "I did one day of stunt driving training and I must have not done very well because I didn't get to drive a car again after that. But Jay was a great driver. There were lots of scenes where he was driving with a camera mounted on the hood. They would just send us off to drive around like that. We got some weird looks from people."
Jay: "For me, the challenge was fighting with Seth. To me, he's like my brother and because of that, fighting with him was very strange. I didn't want to kick him, but I had to."
Q: What did you do during your downtime on the set?
Chou: "I'd do some magic tricks."
Rogen: "He does a lot of magic tricks. That's how he'd entertain us. Jay found basketball very quickly in America. He'd go to Venice beach and play there all the time..."
Chou: "...and Rodeo Drive for shopping."
Q: If there's a sequel, what would you like to see in it?
Chou: "Cameron Diaz. More romance for Kato."
Q: Ah yes, Kato has that one scene where he tries to get close to Lenore. She appears to like him a bit.
Chou: "It's my favorite scene in the movie!"
Q: What did you take away or learn from each other that you wouldn't have otherwise?
Chou: "Seth is exactly like what he is on the screen, except he's not dumb."
Rogen: "Good answer! I've been listening to a lot of his music. There's a song of his at the end of the movie and it's awesome."
Jay: "Music is very important in my life. After this movie, I'm going to back to my music and will make a new album."
Q: Has your time in the United States influenced what you put on that album?
Chou: "I will put some English in my new album. Maybe I'll sing in English."
Q: Any duets with Seth?
Rogen: "That would not be a good idea."
Chou: "He's a good rapper, but not a good singer."
