Sikandra, Agra

Part One of my Agra adventure weekend... First stop.. Tomb of Akbar the Great, an important Mughal architecture masterpiece, built 1605-1613 and set in 48 HA (119 acres) of grounds in Sikandra, a suburb of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Who is Akbar the Great?
According to Wikipedia, Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar (October 15, 1542 - October 27, 1605), was the third Mughal Emperor of India; the son of Humayun, and the grandson of Babur who founded the dynasty. At the end of his reign in 1605, the Mughal empire covered most of Northern India.

Akbar, widely considered the greatest of the Mughal emperors, was 13 years old when he ascended the throne in Delhi, following the death of his father Humayun. During his reign, he eliminated military threats from the Pashtun descendants of Sher Shah Suri, and at the Second Battle of Panipat, defeated the Hindu king Hemu. It took him nearly 2 more decades to consolidate his power and bring parts of northern and central India into his realm. The emperor solidified his rule by pursuing diplomacy with the powerful Rajput caste, and be admitting Rajput princesses in his harem.

Trivia: In 2008, director Ashutosh Gowariker released a film telling the story of Akbar and his wife Hira Hunwari (Jodha Bai), titled Jodhaa Akbar. Akbar was played by Hrithik Roshan and Jodha Bai by Aishwarya Rai.

The Construction
Akbar the Great himself started the construction of his tomb, which was according to Tartary tradition to start the construction of one's tomb during one's lifetime. He planned his own tomb and chose a suitable site for it, but it was after his death that his son, Jahangir completed the construction.

The Location
It is located at Sikandra, in the suburbs of Agra, on the Mathura road (NH2), 8 km WNW of the city center.About 1 km away from the tomb, lies Mariam's Tomb, the tomb of Mariam-uz-Zamani, wife of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and the mother of Jehangir.
the external entrance from the road, built to imitate the Buland Darwaza at Fatehpur Sikri, the city Akbar founded.

me at the entrance

Funny story: while I was posing at the entrance door above, there were 2 local Indian boys who were looking at me and L. When we finished, they went to the same entrance and struck a pose. However, they were looking at us. L and I thought that maybe they wanted us to take their picture, so I smiled at them and said, "You want to take picture?" while gesturing with my hands as if I was holding and clicking a camera. They both nodded, and one of them remained under the frame while another went down to stand beside me. I was waiting for them to give their camera to me but the one who was standing under the frame had the camera and not the one who stood beside me. L and I looked at each other, confused and I said, "(your) camera? give to me?" then they nodded and looked at us again. Still confused, I said, "oh wait, you mean you want to take me and my friend's picture?" They looked at each other, also becoming confused. I've started to become exasperated because they just kept gesturing at us and they never responded to any of my questions. So I was looked at them and I said, "So what? Will i take your picture or not?" Then they looked at each other, and saw them shaking their heads and left us. How odd.. L and I wondered what happened. We talked about it until we realized.. maybe then wanted to take a picture with us!! Maybe that's why one of the boys stood beside me.

The Architecture Details
The buildings are constructed mainly from a deep red sandstone, enriched with features in white marble. Decorated inlaid panels of these materials and a black slate adorn the tomb and the main gatehouse. Panel designs are geometric, floral and calligraphic.

inlay panels on the entrance gate

inside this building lies the tomb of Akbar

Right outside the entrance, we had to take off our shoes and leave them outside

the ceiling and side panels inside the building before going down to the tomb

As we went inside and admired the ceilings and side panels (above), there was a local guide who kept standing beside me, spouting all those history about Akbar the Great, at first I listened, but when I realised that I may have to pay this guy when I leave, I started avoiding him, but I was no match to the very persistent and seasoned guide. He stayed by my side and kept telling me stuff about the whole place even when I wasnt listening. L was smarter, she didn't stand beside me and went around the area by herself.. leaving me at the mercy of the guide.

tomb of Akbar the Great, he's buried 7ft under

We finally went inside the tomb where another local guy was chanting and saying some Hindi words which i interpreted as some prayer and he sounded the bell atop the crypt. I was about to leave when he called me (and being a nice girl..grr), I looked at him and he gave me some flower petals and said, "throw flowers unto the crypt" and so I followed him (without any idea what it was for) and then he said, "now, you give donation". WTF!!! caught me by surprise but I didn't dare react coz there were other local and foreign tourists. Good thing I had 20rupees in my wallet so I quickly fished them out and put it on the crypt.

Going out the entrance, I was already trying to avoid the pesky guide but he kept walking right beside me even while I was making a rude sound and shaking my head. When I was out and getting my shoes, the guide was holding out his hand and I had no choice but to shove another 20 rupees to him. Of course, the guy "guarding" my shoes also had his hands out and I gave him another 20 rupees. After I each gave them tips, they looked at me as if unhappy (I guess they expected more but I no longer had enough change - we were still going to Taj Mahal and I suspect we might ran out of loose change) so I ignored their nasty looks and quickly joined L back to the car.

boys on the side

chapter three. boys on the side.

“Have you decided which actors you want to use for your music video?” Stan asked his good friend Nick while hanging inside the music studio.

Nick is releasing his debut album in two weeks and they needed to shoot his first music video this weekend. As always, the room was filled with the entire crew, pitching in ideas for Nick’s video. Stan and Jay are co-producers of Nick’s album and the title track, Shadow, was written and composed by Stan himself. Stan’s cousins, Eddie and Ken, and Eddie’s girlfriend, Melody also showed up and were busy eating chips and goofing around.

“Not yet, Stan.” Nick replied. “My manager tried calling Jenny and Mike’s management but both have turned down due to conflicting schedules. I’m thinking of calling Eva to be the female lead, though. I’m still missing my main man.”

“How about me?” funny guy Ken jokingly asked. Everyone looked at him and laughed.

“Well, why not? I’m cute and sexy and funny,” Ken teased.

“We need a serious actor, not a comedian, Ken.” Eddie answered back.

“Well, I can be the funny best friend or something.” Ken mumbled.

Nick smiled at his best friend. “Don’t worry, Kenny boy, you’ll be the star in my second music video.”

“Really? Way cool, man. Thanks!” Ken happily replied as Eddie playfully slapped his back.

“C’mon. It’s your turn.”

Just then, Robert, Nick’s manager came in and everyone greeted him.

“Nick, great news. We might get Shane to star in your music video.” Robert excitedly said.

“Really? That guy in that Outsiders drama?” Melody asked.

“Yes. That guy in the Outsiders drama.”

“Oh my god. That hottie! Can I be the lead actress then?” Melody jumped up from her seat, ecstatic.

“No way.” Eddie called out to her girlfriend. “Not unless, I’m the main guy.”

Everyone hooted and teased the couple.

Melody went over to Eddie and kissed him, “Just trying. You don’t even have to pay me.” She teased.

Ken laughed, “Nice try, Mel, but Eddie’s way better than that Shane dude. That guy is probably a dumb pretty boy. I mean, his girlfriend cheated on him, his brother betrayed him and he ended up killing himself during the last episode.”

Nick threw a paper plane at Ken. “That was just a drama, dummy. I’ve met him two months ago at a function and he looks pretty cool.” He then turned to his manager and said, “I’m fine with Shane. If you can get him to shoot the music video next week, then it’s all set. Eva will be calling me today if she can do the video.”

“Alright. I’ll call up Shane’s manager and set it.” Robert got up from his seat.

“Oh, wait,” Melody called out, “I think he’s supposed to have a press conference or something this afternoon for his new drama with Lulu.”

“That’s great,” Nick said, “Maybe we can go to wherever it is going to be held and wait for him. That way, we’ll be able to convince him faster.

“I’ll try, Nick.” Robert replied, “but I’ve got a meeting with the marketing department this afternoon to discuss your promotional tour. Don’t worry about it. I know Shane’s personal manager. I’ll give her a call later.”

“Okay.” Everyone nodded and Robert left the room.

“So, do you know where this presscon will be held?” Eddie asked Melody.

“I’m not sure, Eddie. Wait, I’ll give my friend a call. She’s an assistant personal manager and she managed him during his Outsiders activity. I’ll see if she’s still the one handling him.” Melody reached for the cell phone and dialed her friend’s number.

“Hello? Andrea? It’s Mel.”

“Hi Mel! What’s up?”

“Are you still handling Shane?” Melody asked.

“Why? Are you back stalking him?” Andrea teased her friend. They met at the annual Christmas party last year. Apparently, Melody’s then boyfriend was Andrea’s cousin. Melody and Andrea’s cousin didn’t last long, but the two girls’ friendship did.

“No. Nick needs a lead actor for his first music video and I was wondering if we can ask Shane to participate in the video.”

“Ah. Unfortunately, we switched clients last month, so I’m handling Malinda now.”

“Oh. I see. Then I guess you don’t know where Shane’s presscon will be held later?”

“Oh that? It’s at the Grand Hotel in Fifth Avenue. 5 pm, Lilac Room.”

“Great! Thanks a lot!” Melody said.

“Wait. I almost forgot. Shane’s assistant personal manager is Annie. She’s one of my closest friends. I’ll call her ahead for you.”

“Really? Okay. I owe you one, Andy. Give me a call if it’s okay for us to go there later.”

“Will do. Bye, Mel.” They said their goodbyes and hanged up.

Melody looked at everyone and announced. “Andrea’s friend is handling Shane. She’ll give her a call and she’ll let us know if we can come over and squeeze us in his schedule.”

“Great.” Nick said. “That’s settled then. Stan, will you go with me to the presscon later? You too, Mel.”

“Sure.” Stan replied. Melody nodded excitedly.

“Hey, what about us?” Ken and Eddie asked.

Stan slapped their thighs. “You two go to class this afternoon. You can’t miss any of your classes, especially since the group will be releasing our 3rd album in 3 months’ time.”

“Okay. We hear you, big brother.” Eddie replied.

Stan then called Nick and they practiced rehearsed the 5th song before they start recording it tonight.

It was already 12nn when they finished rehearsals. Ken and Eddie went to class while Nick, Melody and Stan went out for lunch at the nearby ramen house.

“So Stan,” Melody started, “I have this girl friend that you might like.”

“Mel,” Nick warned.

“Relax, Nick, this one’s the real deal.” Melody replied. Seeing as Stan is the second oldest in the group (he just turned 31 a few months ago) after Jay and still unmarried and without a girlfriend, Melody has been trying to hook him up with her friends in the university for months. Her 5 attempts at matchmaking all failed, as the first one was too flirty and flaky for Stan, the second girl was too serious, the third one too short and the fourth one just plain opposites. The most recent one was nice, she and Stan even went out for weeks, but nothing happened and Stan stopped calling her after that.

“Mel,” it was Stan who spoke up. “I’m really glad you’re concerned and is helping me with my love life, but I’m having fun being single and I don’t want any commitments right now.”

“And if you’re going to hook Stan up with some girl, better look for someone he might actually like, and not just dig up every single university friend you have.” Nick chided lightly.

“Hey, my friends are nice and pretty and I didn’t dig them up from nowhere. All of them told me they like you a lot, Stan. I mean, really like you. If I didn’t have Eddie with me, I’d probable go for you too coz you’re hot.” Melody smiled.

Stan’s smiled wryly, “Thanks.”

“But they said that you’re not that attentive to them, like, you’re not even there when you go out with them. What’s wrong?” Melody asked, concerned.

“Nothing.” Stan answered defensively. “I’m there. I don’t space out. I listen to them. I guess they’re not my type.”

Nick replied, “Better hook him up with someone much prettier, Mel. Someone with star quality. Someone like...” Nick’s voice trailed off.

“Like Malinda?” Melody asked.

Nick winced when Mel mentioned her. Stan was silent.

“Mel... I told you not to talk about her.” Nick said, while hushing Melody.

Stubbornly, Melody continued. “What’s up with you and Malina anyways, Stan? Whatever did happen between the two of you?”

Stan shrugged, “It was a long time ago. I don’t remember.”

“Eddie said that you and Malinda went out for 4 years and almost got engaged. Then one day, you guys broke up and Eddie said you’ve never been the same. You’ve had a string of short relationships and flings but never had another serious relationship since the Malinda episode.” Melody said, “and that was 3 years ago?”

“Malinda was not yet a star then. Her career took off a few months after they broke up and she switched to Golden Records and landed that ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ tv drama.” Nick finished the story.

“So that rumor about Malinda dating the son of big boss of Golden Records to get that role true?” Melody wondered.

“I hope not.” Nick replied.

“Yes.” Stan said at the same time, his voice a bit cold and harsh.

Nick and Melody fell silent and waited for Stan to continue. He didn’t. He just continued finishing his hamburger.

“Oh.” Melody softly said.

It was Stan who broke the awkward silence. “It was a long time ago. If you ask me if I still feel anything for her? No more. I’m just sad and disappointed that our relationship ended that way. I loved her so much then, but I guess her career was more important to her at that time. I don’t blame her. She got what she wanted because now she’s popular and successful and they got engaged last month.”

Melody sighed, wishing she just kept her mouth shut. She met Stan through Eddie two years ago, but she has known Eddie and the rest of the group since they were still living in San Francisco and she treats everyone like her own brothers, except for Eddie who she loves the most.

“Sorry I brought her up, Stan. I just want to find you a great girl who will appreciate you and who you can spend your life with.”

Stan smiled at Melody. As Mel treats Stan like her own brother, Stan, in turn, treats Mel like his own younger sister and being the 2nd big brother of group, he feels protective towards his “siblings”.

“Thanks, Mel. I know you mean well, but I will find her someday.” He then thought of the pretty girl who fainted in his arms a few days ago and smiled, “Well, maybe I have found her.”

Nick, who was busy playing with the salt and pepper stopped and looked at Stan, “You found her? Who? I haven’t seen out with any girl these past few weeks.”

Melody, who was equally curious added, “Who is she? Is she someone we know?”

Stan laughed. “I actually don’t know her that well too.” He then told the story about how he saved a girl from fainting a few days ago near the coffee shop.

“So, what did she look like?” Nick eagerly pressed Stan for details.

Melody chirped, “Was it love at first sight?”

Stan laughed at them and replied. “Really pretty, smooth and straight black hair falling down her shoulders, small brown eyes, soft white skin. She barely reaches my shoulders, but she looks really good.” Stan grinned as he continued, “Love at first sight? No, more like curious and concern at first sight. She looked delicate and sad at first but then she felt better and she started laughing and her smile just lit her face up and she has cute dimples on her both cheeks that comes out whenever she grins.”

“Whoo... someone sounds smitten here.” Melody teased.

Nick guffawed. “Damn, I want her to take a look at her myself. Did you even get her name and number?”

“Her name’s Anne and I forgot to ask for her number,” Stan answered sheepishly, “but she works around here so I’m hoping to see her again soon and maybe I’ll ask for her number then.”

“But then, she’s still trying to get over her jerk of an ex-boyfriend, so might not be a good time to come in.” Stan continued.

“Nah,” Melody replied, “it’s been months since their break up, I’m thinking she needs to find a new guy so that she can move on, and that,” Melody pointed at Stan, “my man, is going to be you.”

“Maybe,” Stan couldn’t stop smiling, “We’ll see.”

Nick replied, “Maybe? Definitely, man! This is the first time you’ve been really excited talking about a girl, so you definitely have to snag her man!”

Stan raised his hands up and replied, “Okay. Okay. The next time I see her, and I hope it’ll be soon, I’m asking her out!”

“And don’t forget to introduce her to us, Stan.” Melody reminded.

“Sure.” Stan looked at his watch and saw that it was already 2pm.

“Hey, we better go.” Stan told Nick, “We still have to drop by at my house to get the guitar for tonight’s recording session.”

“Yeah, you’re right.” They all stood up from their table and went out the restaurant.

“How about you, Mel? What time’s your next class?” Nick asked Melody.

“Oh, shoot! My next class is in 30 minutes! I’ve got to go guys!” Melody replied.

“We’ll take you there.” Stan said.

“Thanks, but no need. It’s just 10 minutes away from here and you left your car at the basement building. It’ll be faster if I just walk.” Melody told Stan as she started towards the opposite direction.

“Okay. Call us when your friend calls you about the Shane presscon thing.” Nick called out.

Melody raised her thumbs up and said, “Will do! See you guys later.”Nick and Stan went back to the office to get Stan’s car and they drove back to Stan’s apartment to pick up the guitar.

young at heart

i'm in my late 20s yet my guilty pleasure is buying young adult fiction. why? one, i'm a hopeless romantic and a sucker for sweet romance. two, it reminds me of my own high school life, when life was simple and all we cared about were school and boys. for this series, i will be focusing on my favorite YA authors and their books.

Rachel Hawthorne

Rachel, who also writes as Lorraine Heath and Jade Parker, is the daughter of a British beauty and a Texan who was stationed at Bovington while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Herts, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her 'dual' nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan. She enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.

She received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas and writes for both adult and young adult readers. She received a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Americana historicals. Her novels have been recognized with a RITA, Romance WRiters of America's most prestigious award for excellence, a HOLT medallion award honoring outstanding literary fiction, a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, five Texas Gold Awards, the Golden Quill Award, the Rising Star Award as well as other awards and recognitions. Her novels have been selections of the Doubleday and Rhapsody Book Club and have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA Today, Waldenbooks, and most recently, the New York Times.

She currently lives near Dallas, Texas, with her husband and two dogs. Before writing full-time, she was a programmer, but quickly discovered that creating stories was more fun than creating codes.

Bibliography: (I will list the books from my fave to the least fave)
Carribean Cruising

This book is a personal favorite of mine. It's about the girl whose mom got married to the guy's father. For the honeymoon, they went on a cruise. The girl and the guy became good friends and hanged out with a group of teenagers. She is looking for a summer love, but will she end up finding love with him after all? The story is sweet, like watching a summer teen movie like The Babysitters Club or Sisters of Traveling Pants.

Thrill Ride
Another great read from Rachel. This time, the girl is working at a theme park for the summer. She has a boyfriend back home but then she meets the hot older guy who likes her (and she likes her back). Will she stay with her boyfriend or be with the new guy? I particularly liked the ending of this book because like her, I am scared of riding the rollercoaster, but in the book, it shows that she was able to overcome her fear because of her love for the guy. And from then on, she was open and willing to take chances in life.

The Boyfriend League
The girl loves baseball and for the summer, she wants to find love with a boy from the summer league. She was able to persuade her family to answer an ad to house players for the summer. Fortunately for her, the boy who's staying with them is the hottest boy in the league but she thinks that there is absolutely no way that he can fall in love with her. But then they did fall in love but now another dilemma crops up because she promised her parents that she won't date the guy living in her house for the summer. This book is an enjoyable read because I liked the characters and the overall plot of the story.

Love on the Lifts
I had a fun time reading this book because I loved the characters. This time, the girl has a crush on his older brother's best friend (but who likes somebody else). In the meantime, another friend of her brother joined the trip and has a crush on her. Of course, she ends up with the much nicer and sweeter guy.

Island Girls (and Boys)
The story centered on 3 girl friends and the 3 boys they meet during the summer. This was just an okay book for me because I didn't find any of the 3 girls or the 3 boys likable. Both the story is a great beach read.

Suite Dreams
This book is about a girl who has to stay in the college dorm for the winter break. Her boyfriend went to Australia via the couchsurfing website and did not tell her that another guy is coming over to stay with her (you can say it's like an exchange house thing for the winter). Good thing the guy is a very cute and hot guy and they end up falling in love. There was no major fight or anything in the book, it was more of a we-drifted-apart-and-met-someone-else kind of love story.

Labor of Love
Rachel was inspired by the news of teen volunteers helping out in the rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina that she used it as the main setting of her story (different place though). The book again featured several girls and boys in a group, though it also focused on the main girl and her guy. I thought the story was not too exciting and dragged and I didn't like the guy (I thought he was 'mayabang' at first) but eventually he'll turn out to be a nice guy.

Snowed In
I put this book last since I still haven't found this book yet. So here's the product description:

Well, apparently I live here now—my mom just bought the place. And named it after me, Ashleigh, which was nice. But did she know how cold it is here??
Um, it's a tiny island with not much to do, unless you really like sleigh rides. But I gotta say there are quite a few hot guys on this cold island . . .

Overall, I think her books are worth buying and I like how I can read them over and over again and still feel the same way. I haven't tried her historical romances and she has a book for pre-teens (First Kisses #1: Trust Me) but I didn't feel like buying/reading it because the girl is only 13 years old. She has another series of books called "Dark Guardian".  I have books 1 & 2 in e-book format but haven't started reading them. I just found out book 4 came out recently. Will probably update this post when I have the chance to read them.

I will be posting more YA books that I have read (that are similar to her work) so please wait for them!

brown eyed girls

I'm a huge fan of this quartet consisting of Ga-in, Miryo, Narsha and Jea. They're currently one of the most popular girl groups in Korea. But no, they're not teenybopper... 3 of them are 28 and only Gain is 22. Their first 2 albums are more Rnb and Ballads with some hiphop elements. For their recent albums, however, they have added electropop and dance to their music. Check them out!

new songs!

Kpop world is back with great new hits!

Taeyang, my fave member of Big Bang, is back with his solo single called "Where U At". The music video is really simple, just him and 2 guys dancing (his choreographers i heard) but his moves are so slick and cool, you can't help but get fangirly!

SM Entertainment's 2 girl groups, SNSD and f(x) each released their own versions of the song "Chocolate Love" - my current fave song.
SNSD - Retro pop version 1 (with Eng subs)

Version 2 (w/o Eng subs but with more close up shots)

f(x) - Electro pop version 1 (with Eng subs)

Version 2

Which version do you like more?

look what just arrived for me!

new mooches!!!!

i'm the type of person that when i become a huge fan of someone, i get all fangirly and try to get stuffs related to my idol. be it my fave singer (i would buy albums, calendars, posters) or fave celebrity (saving all the pics, trying to catch of his interviews, shows, movies and videos in youtube). same is true when i find a new author that i like. before, i buy all of the books of my fave authors as soon as it comes out
(even when it's still in hardcover and even if the reviews are bad). now, i'm more practical, i just go to my ever trustworthy Amazon.com, read the reviews and try to collect all of the author's books with at least 4 1/2 stars rating. My flavor of the month is Mary Higgins Clark.

Mary Higgins Clark - While My Pretty One Sleeps
Neeve Kearny may be the only person in New York worried about the disappearance of Ethel Lambston. Ethel, a bestselling author famous for her juicy exposΓ©s, is one of the best customers at Neeve's exclusive Madison Avenue boutique. But Ethel's ex-husband, her parasitical nephew, and the fashion moguls skewered in her latest article all have reason to be glad she's no longer around.

When Ethel Lambston is found with her throat cut, Neeve's memories of her mother's long-unsolved murder loom up once again. Now as an innocent witness in the Lambston investigation, Neeve is drawn into a new nightmare...a sinister labyrinth of greed and ambition that will lead her into mortal danger...

Mary Higgins Clark - Weep No More, My Lady
Elizabeth Lange has arrived at Cypress Point Spa in Pebble Beach, California, weary of heart and soul. Still grieving for her beloved sister, a famous actress who plunged to her death from her Manhattan penthouse, Elizabeth is determined to unearth the truth about how Leila died. Dashing multimillionaire Ted Winters stands accused of her murder, but Elizabeth has doubts.

Along the windswept cliffs of the Monterey coast, in luxurious bungalows, between gourmet meals and beachfront walks, uneasiness stalks Elizabeth while she begins opening doors to the past. As glimpses of the dark truth about Leila's life and death -- and about Elizabeth herself -- start to crash against her mind, an ominous wave from an unexpected source threatens to engulf her entirely.

Mary Higgins Clark - Remember Me
A killer turns a young family's dream holiday into an unfathomable nightmare....Menley Nichols and her husband, Adam, a criminal attorney, rent a house on Cape Cod, in the hope of restoring their faltering marriage. The birth of their daughter, Hannah, has revitalized their relationship, but Menley has never stopped blaming herself for the accidental death of her two-year-old son. The serenity of the Cape promises a new start.

In Remember House, an eighteenth-century landmark with a sinister past, strange incidents force Menley to relive the accident that killed her son, and she begins to fear for Hannah's safety. Then Adam takes on a client suspected of murder when his wealthy young bride of only three months drowns in a storm -- and the family is drawn into a rising tide of terror. A confrontation on a dark, rain-swept beach leads to a harrowing climax that only Mary Higgins Clark could have created.

Mary Higgins Clark - All Around the Town

When Laurie Kenyon, a twenty-one-year-old student, is accused of murdering her English professor, she has no memory of the crime. Her fingerprints, however, are everywhere. When she asks her sister, attorney Sarah, to mount her defense, Sarah in turn brings in psychiatrist Justin Donnelly. Kidnapped at the age of four and victimized for two years, Laurie has developed astounding coping skills. Only when the unbearable memories of those lost years are released can the truth of the crime come out -- and only then can the final sadistic plan of her abductor, whose obsession is stronger than ever, be revealed.

Mary Higgins Clark - Loves Music, Loves to Dance
New York's trendy magazines are a source of peril when a killer enacts a bizarre dance of death, using the personal ads to lure his victims...

After college, best friends Erin Kelley and Darcy Scott move to the city to pursue exciting careers; Erin is a promising jewelry designer, Darcy finds success as a decorator. On a lark, Darcy persuades Erin to help their TV producer friend research the kinds of people who place personal ads. It seems like innocent fun...until Erin disappears.

Erin's body is found on an abandoned Manhattan pier -- on one foot is her own shoe, on the other, a high-heeled dancing slipper. Soon after, startling communiques from the killer reveal that Erin is not the first victim of this "dancing shoe murderer." And, if the killer has his way, she won't be his last. Next on his death list is Darcy

Carly Phillips - Under the Boardwalk

Ariana Costas has always been the outsider in her huge, crazy Greek family. She also has a twin sister, Zoe, whose personality is very different from her own. While Ariana has always been known as the good girl, Zoe has relished her role as the troublemaker. Now, perhaps due to one of her shady schemes, she has gone missing. But when Ariana is mistaken for her twin and rescued from a bullet by handsome stranger Quinn Donovan, her life flips upside down. Quinn is resolved to protect Ariana, but he is keeping secrets of his own that are destined to complicate both of their lives. Through Ariana, the quintessential loner discovers the importance of family and love. But can Ariana trust herself enough to win Quinn's heart?

Big thanks to Agie and Joel G for the mooches!
