new books!!

bought two books last friday...

Almost Perfect by Julie Ortolon
Paperback: 304 pages
Publisher: Signet (September 6, 2005)
Product Description: Maddy, Christine, and Amy find that an old college roommate has written about them in her new self-help book-and they're furious that she's used them as examples of how women screw up their lives. And the worst part is, it's sort of true. Together they make a pact: they'll face down their fears-and maybe show Miss Perfect a thing or two!

Maddy rejected her high school sweetheart's marriage proposal for art school years ago. Now her friends challenge her to rediscover her lost passion for arts. In doing so, she crosses paths with her old flame, Joe, at an art camp. Perhaps it's about time that Maddy reignites another old passion.

I had an enjoyable time reading this book. It felt like i was watching a Jennifer Aniston chickflick and I really liked Maddy. Joe, on the other hand I don't like very much. Throughout the book I kept thinking, "why is Maddy so in love with this guy? I don't understand." He sounded immature to me, like all those years and he's still pissed off because Maddy wouldn't marry him then even when Maddy has repeatedly told him the reason, that she really just wasn't ready. But overall I was still happy with the book because i don't think there was any major conflict in the story and instead, it focused more on their second chance at love and how this time they matured and made it work. I'm looking forward to read Christine and Amy's stories next!

Fools Rush In by Kristan Higgins
Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages
Publisher: HQN (November 1, 2006)
Product Description: Millie Barnes is this close to finally achieving her perfect life . . .
Rewarding job as a local doctor on Cape Cod? Check. Cute cottage of her very own? Check. Adorable puppy suitable for walks past attractive locals? Check! All she needs is for golden boy and former crush Joe Carpenter to notice her, and Millie will be set.

But perfection isn't as easy as it looks -- especially when Sam Nickerson, the town sheriff, is so distracting. Sure, he needs a friend after being dumped by Millie's fortune-hunting sister, but does she really need to enjoy his company that much? He is definitely not part of her master plan. But maybe it's time for Millie to start a new list . . .

This is another great love story that can easily be made into a good romantic comedy movie. The only thing I didn't like was the ex-relationship between Millie and Sam... I mean... Sam was married to her sister for almost 20 years! Isn't there a girl's rule that you don't go out or sleep with your sister or best friend's husband or boyfriend? I find it too icky. But the author justified their "love" by showing us what a bitch her sister was and how she only tricked him to marry her and Millie and Sam were more compatible. And the author was pretty good that you might somehow forget their sister/brother-in-law relationship. I also like Joe and I find it great that the author didn't make Joe be a bad guy.. he was really crushworthy except that he wasn't the one for Millie. I hope she has a follow up novel but Joe and Millie's best friend. That would be an interesting novel to read!
