quasi-gamer

i grew up with computers and gadgets. i guess it's because i live with 2 older brothers and 2 older male cousins who love games and gadgets. of course, being the youngest in the clan, if i wanted to play with them, i had to do what they do. so i grew up playing action figures, computer games and video consoles. you name it, we had it -- game and watch (donkey kong), family computer, sega, super nes, desktop pc, brick game.

back then the games are very simple but addicting and i think the games i played shaped my current love for mysteries and brainiac games. of all the consoles, i remember family computer the most. i remember always teaming up with my brother J -- he's pretty good with games and i was so lampa, im always either left behind or killed in round 1. i loved mario brothers and pacman even if i could never finish the games (yes, i'm THAT bulok with action games).. see the pictures below? the graphics are soo ancient compared to the games being released in ipad but i feel like the classic games have more playing value than angry birds or fruit ninja.
remember these: double dragon , contra, lode runner
mario brothers, burger time, battle city, tetris
megaman, galaxian, galaga, pacman
then the dawn of desktop PCs came and i started playing Celtics vs Lakers game (me, my bros and cousins had a tournament -- we each chose 2 teams and competed against each other -- i was actually quite good at it that i won a few of the tournaments -- my teams were Utah Jazz and LA Lakers -- and i confess, i was a basketball fanatic then.. i used to have so many John Stockton trading cards and i had a huge crush on Magic Johnson) then i moved to all those quests.. police quest, hero's quest, king's quest, space quest, then there was Larry Laffer (it was a bit sexual for a young girl like me but hey it was fun playing it), Guybrush Threepwood and Freddie Pharkas.. and we had the pc version of the Phantom of the Opera -- i didnt know that this was actually a musical back then and i remember being scared of the Phantom
mystery mansion, maniac mansion, leisure suit larry, freddie pharkas and monkey island
by the time i was in high school, college, my love for computers and computer games was so strong, my brothers and i used to buy pirated pc games and my favorite until now is civilization (i played all 1,2, call to power and colonization) and im currently downloading civ 5.
unfortunately, with my busy work life, i have stopped playing "real" pc games for the past 8 years and have resorted to just playing hidden object games, time management games and tycoon games. my brother J has stopped playing pc games and has a long standing love affair with his xbox and ps3, while my other brother M is so hooked on wow, it's hard trying to peel him away from his room. i still have my nintendo ds lite -- unfortunately ive stopped playing for more than a year that my r4ds card has a error (or maybe my nephews keep opening and "playing" my nds lite that it broke).

i recently looked at the new games and found out that the top 2 games now are dragon age 2 and shogun 2. im so tempted to start playing these two games (thats how geeky and hopeless i am, instead of going out and finding a date with a guy, id rather play games) -- i asked my brother J if he thinks i can play these games (he knows my poor gaming skills so well) and he immediately said no. im not even offended coz i know it's the truth. but i think i've gotten older and more mature.. maybe even my gaming skills have leveled up. so that's my current goal -- to try playing these two games to see if i have what it takes to become a full fledged gaming geek! Aja Aja!

rango

trust johnny depp to star in an animated film that's just like his weird and quirky roles...
rango is different from the other recent animated films in that it tackles serious issues like finding oneself and saving a town, being a hero. even the jokes were witty and smart, and not the usual slapstick comedy. i loved how all the characters seemed so real and gross.. i bet the 3D would have been awesome! there were some draggy parts and even though it was a happy ending, the whole tone of the movie was just.. dark and gloomy... really just the normal unusual johnny depp that i love :)

goodbye violet eyes

i just found out that Elizabeth Taylor has died at age 79.. i feel sad... i loved watching her in her classic movies.. she is soo beautiful and feisty.. my favorite of course is Cat On A Hot Tin Roof with Paul Newman.. Really classic Elizabeth Taylor.

waiting sucks!

0.4% left .. and then i'm off to Bon Temps!!

i've been waiting for more than 2 months for this to complete!!! well, the delay is mostly due to me downloading my gf is a gumiho, coffee house, city hall, pretty little liars, grey's anatomy first before true blood :) oh and sometimes download is realllly slow..

Frenemy

I have a love-hate relationship with stairs.

I love using the stairs because walking helps me think and it's a good exercise.

I hate stairs esp when i'm wearing high heels because more often than not i slip and trip over the slippery steps. It has happened to me so many times i've learned to grab on to the rails and carefully descend them.

Cant stop

Ive been spending the past hour channel surfing... Cant stop... Its addicting...

the comfortable choice

i love listening to 106.7 dream fm while driving home. the music just fits my mood -- more music, less talk. the smooth melodies and vocals of the artists they play are perfect for winding down. i just hate it when i like a song but the dj does not mention the artist and title.. it drives me crazy trying to google the lyrics!

babyface

i went to resorts world this afternoon with A to watch Kaos the musical. we applied for a membership card online so when we got there, they told us we can claim the membership card inside the casino. as we went in the casino, the guard stopped us and asked me, "Ma'am, ilang taon na po kayo?" I was smiling when I said, "I'm 30." The guard didn't respond, like he was thinking if i was telling the truth or not so I repeated. "I'm 30." he still looked unconvinced so I said again ,while A and I were laughing, "I'm 30." He finally let me go and we were laughing all the way to the customer service counter.

I was wearing full makeup on, with not-so-young getup (loose off-shouldered blouse, black jeans, 3 inch black studded heels, brown Mango sling bag) but I still got mistaken for a minor! i find it funny because it's been such a long time since i got asked my age, i thought by now i would have looked mature.. so either I really will always look like a babyface or my anti-aging creams are working!!

when you're young, you hate it when people think that you're a kid, but when you're older, you relish when people mistake you for someone younger. so i'll enjoy these moments while i still can :)

geek chic

i confess, though the high school jocks and hearthrobs are handsome, i've always gone for the geeks.. even my favorite actors are the geeky, funny and sweet guys. there have some several list of favorite hollywood geeks and i thought i'll list down my own top 3:

3.) joseph gordon levitt
i love 10 things i hate about you not just because of heath ledger and julia stiles but also because of cameron (played by joseph gordon levitt). he has recently come back as the sweet guy in 500 days of summer and uberhot in inception. i heard he will be in the next batman movie.. this awkward geek is now a rising hot star!
2.) paul rudd
from one of my favorite chicklit movies, clueless, to a string of laidback movies, paul is my favorite geek. he was in romeo+juliet, the object of my affection, anchorman, 40 year old virgin, night at the museum, knocked up, over her dead body, role models, i love you man, dinner for schmucks... he's probably the guy you would dismiss in high school for being a shy geek, or as Jason Mraz says, "you might regret what you let slip away like the geek in the pink..."
1.) nathan filion
ruggedly handsome rick castle! he's a self-confessed geek god. i love his character in castle because he is so charming and smart and witty.. and that's why even if kate beckett tries to date other hot model looking doctors or cops, she always go back to castle. i've read his interviews in magazines and he sounds exactly like his characters, except geekier (haha). im not a fan of sci-fi but for him, i'd watch Firefly.

other anti-matinee idol actors that i like are:
the ever so quirky johnny depp - loved him most as sweeney todd
i loved-him-since-titanic leo dicaprio
mark ruffalo - i liked him in 13 going 30, feels like heaven, zodiac, shutter island

simon baker - i want to be the one who can heal patrick jane's heart, but i'm afraid i'm not good enough for him (hehe)
and two prettyboys but not so anti-matinee idols that i like are:
james marsden - he can be the leading man (27 dresses), an action hero (cyclops) or a singer (enchanted / hairspray).. a versatile performer
chris pine - he made me like star wars. enuf said.
patrick dempsey - mcdreamy yummy.. and all that sexy hair..

heart attack on the road

driving along makati avenue during morning rush hour is so stressful!!!  people are not following the lanes or eating up two lanes, singit ng singit at overtake para makalamang eh traffic naman.  if i wasn't a defensive driver i probably would have had a car accident already. And the blame mostly goes to the undisciplined jeepney and taxi drivers -- they want to turn left but they're staying at the far right lane and they will force their way just to reach the left lane on time, causing havoc on the streets. and they don't use signal lights! our bad driving skills pooly showcase our attitude and personality. tsk tsk!

Almost...

Tonight i hit drive instead of reverse in the parking lot. Good thing i immediately stepped on the brakes and being in a hurry to park, hindi ko sinagad sa wall or else i would have slammed into the wall and have the most embarrassing car accident since i slammed into a post last year.

new theme

in preparation for my soon-to-be independence, i changed my layout to different things around the house to inspire me when i start furniture shopping! :)

pwned by a critter

funny story last night..

i was going to greenhills with my dhya to watch the adjustment bureau when my ahya asked me to buy him a hot cafe mocha at starbucks. when we finished watching the movie (good premise but bad execution - the movie ended up being shallow..so disappointing), i went starbucks to buy the coffee.

since our car did not have cup holders, i had to hold the coffee the whole ride home. through the bumps and humps, i carefully made sure that i wont spill the coffee.. we even made some detours (fetching my nephews, stopping by mercury).. so when we finally reached home, i was proud of myself for not spilling a single drop of coffee.

i went up to our house and went straight to my ahya's room. i knocked once and he immediately opened the door. then he pointed to the wall right beside me and said, "uy! may daga!" i screamed and spilled some of the coffee as the mouse scurried away from me. ACK!!!

never gonna leave this bed

such a sexy song.. wish some guy will sing this to me.. *sigh*

You push me, I don't have the strength to

Resist or control you
So take me down, take me down

You hurt me but do I deserve this?
You make me so nervous
Calm me down, calm me down

Wake you up in the middle of the night to say
I will never walk away again
I'm never gonna leave this bed

So come here and never leave this place
Perfection of your face
Slows me down, slows me down

So fall down, I need you to trust me
Go easy, don't rush me
Help me out, why don't you help me out?

Wake you up in the middle of the night to say
I will never walk away again
I'm never gonna leave this bed

So you say go, it isn't worth it
And I say no, it isn't perfect
So I stay and still
I'm never gonna leave this bed

Take it, take it all, take all that I have
I'd give it all away just to get you back
And fake it, fake it, I'll take what I can get

Knocking so loud
Can you hear me yet?
Try to stay awake
But you can't forget

Wake you up in the middle of the night to say
I will never walk away again
I'm never gonna leave this bed

You say go, it isn't worth it
And I say no, it isn't perfect
So I stay and still
I'm never gonna leave this bed

Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have

Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have

cry for help

what do you do with a person so stubborn he won't accept anybody's words of advice?
even if it means saving his life, or making him feel better.
i know he's hurting real bad, the physical pain is starting to get to him
but no matter how hard we try to talk to him
he hears nothing.
he tries to hide the pain. he's scared of what he's feeling.
we're scared too but we can't do anything if he wont let us.
if he wont help himself.
has he given up? or does he simply dont care?
do we give up? do we stop trying?
do we just leave it to fate?
i wish someone will wake him up from a decade's slumber and lead him back to the right path.
i wish God will hear my prayers.

dreams

i'm having these jumbled dreams
and they're so mixed up
it's confusing the hell out of me.

now i'm having sleepless nights
and when morning comes,
i can hardly open my eyes to wake up.

can someone make these dreams go away?

Actor Hyun Bin joined Marines Monday

aww... so sad to see Hyun Bin go.. hope he'll be safe while in the Marines for the next 2 years!

taken from: http://www.koreaherald.com/national/Detail.jsp?newsMLId=20110307000590
Actor Hyun Bin joined the Marines on Monday for his military service in South Korea.
“I have received great attention and love in the year 2010 and now I have been ordered by my country (to serve in the military). I will return the love you have given me in two years and I will spend those two years well,” Hyun said in the farewell message to his fans gathered in front of the Marines Corp training base.

He also said he was grateful to those who spared time to come here to see him and promised to be back.

He will take part in a five-week training in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, before being posted to a unit where he will serve for the next 21 months.
Thousands of fans, including overseas fans from Japan and China, gathered in front of the Marines Corp training base in a small town of Pohang on Monday to say goodbye to their idol. About 170 domestic and foreign reporters were at the scene to report the moment Hyun joins the Marines.

Korean news channel YTN also broadcasted live from the scene.

Welcoming placards for Hyun drew media attention days before he appeared. The office of Ocheon town, where the Marine Corps training base is located, put up a placard welcoming the soon-to-be enlisted Marines, indicating the direction where fans of Hyun Bin should go to prevent chaos breaking out on the big day.
Hyun announced that he had been accepted to join the Marines in January.

He gained tremendous popularity with his role in the SBS weekend drama “Secret Garden” and built up an enormous fan base both nationwide and overseas. Two recently released movies in which Hyun starred, “Late Autumn” and “Come Rain, Come Shine” also received attention.

Hyun managed a very tight and busy schedule before he joined the Marines, finishing with an official outing at the Berlin film festival and a series of commercial shoots in late February.

Hyun’s decision to join the Marines came after the North Korea’s bombardment of Yeonpyeong Island near the West Sea border on Nov. 23.

The attack sparked anger among young South Koreans, and increased the number of applicants for the Marine Corps as a result. Applicants for other special forces such as the Underwater Demolition Team of the Navy rose after their brave rescue mission for soldiers on the Cheonan warship and hostages held by Somali pirates.

Hyun’s case is in sharp contrast to a host of actors who have been charged with draft-dodging.

GNP’s lawmaker Jeon Yeo-ok once called the actor’s decision to join the Marines an act of “noblesse oblige,” and hoped it would be a chance to change the perception of young South Koreans toward the mandatory military duty.

In Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for about two years.

shinhwa changjo!!!

i hope this is really true!! i miss seeing them performing on stage and goofing off in variety shows!! but i didn't like their last album.. so i hope they go back to the perfect man/wedding/brand new style of music.. and please.. no auto-tune!!

taken from: http://www.allkpop.com/2011/03/kim-dong-wan-predicts-shinhwa-will-have-their-comeback-in-2012

Singer Kim Dong Wan recently teased about Shinhwa’s future comeback!

Appearing on the March 1st episode of “Strong Heart“, the Shinhwa member was asked the question, “When will Shinhwa be one again?“. He responded, “We are all going to be together in 2012“.

Dong Wan explained, “We are all working hard to be able to perform on stage again soon“. The MCs were skeptical, and so they pressed, “Is it a promise or just a false hope?“.
Dong Wan smiled, “This is a promise“.
Shinhwa is the longest-running boy band in K-pop history, as they have yet to disband. Out of its six members, three are currently serving in the army.
